Velma M. Dabney

Velma M. Dabney, age 84, of 629 Payson Ave., Quincy, went to be with her heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at 3:40 pm in Sunset Home.

Velma was born on February 20, 1929 in Edina, MO to William and Pearl Weaver Barnes. She married Carl V. Dabney on December 23, 1950 in Edina, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2004.

Velma was active in the Women's Ministries of Bethel Assembly of God. She loved reading and walking and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include: her daughter, Barbara (Larry) Penn of Payson, IL; her son, Donald V. Dabney of Nashville, TN; five grandchildren: Lori (Joe) Laratta of Hannibal, MO; Arminda (Brian) Christian of Marion, IL; Kelly (Gabriel) Spires of Murrieta, CA; Kandy (DJ) Camac of Murfreesboro, TN; and Joshua (Natalia) Dabney of Temecula, CA; eight great-grandchildren: Nolan, Jared, and Gavin Christian of Marion, IL; Paige and Paisley Spires of Murrieta, CA; Jaydn and Teia Camac of Murfreesboro, TN; Jaxsen Dabney of Temecula, CA; her sister, Eva Hatfield and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Carl V. Dabney; her parents; three brothers, Raymond, Billie and William Barnes; three sisters, Mabel Cullers, Irene Spray and Marie Barnes.

Services: Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Bethel Assembly of God, with Rev. Keith Garner officiating.

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery

Visitation: Monday from 5 - 7 p.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home

Memorials: Bethel Assembly of God for Women's Ministry or New Building Fund.
