John Bybee, Bybee,

John Bybee, Jr., age 88, of 523 Temple St., Quincy, died Friday, September 6, 2013 at 2:39 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.

He was born July 8, 1925 in Canton, Illinois the son of John Henry and Florence Fogg Bybee. On February 26, 1946 he married Patricia L. Maurice in Canton, IL. She survives.

In 1943 he graduated from Canton High School. During World War II he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Cleveland in the South Pacific. John then worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company for 38 years, retiring in 1978 as a supervisor. He then worked nine years for Continental Cablevision.

He and Pat were avid boaters and members of the Quincy Boat Club. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge.

Survivors in addition to his wife include 2 sons, Stephen Robert (Mary Alice) Bybee of Quincy and Bruce Warren (Ann) Bybee of Burnett, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Kevin (Amie) Bybee of Kansas City, KS, John (Abby) Bybee of Sherman, IL, Andrew Bybee and Amanda (Charles) Morgan both of Pflugerville, TX; and 10 great grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Raymond Bybee, Robert Allen Bybee and David Bybee; and 5 sisters, Mable VanDyke, Frances Herink, Mickey Hipple, Daisey Volker and Mary Myers.

Services: Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Noon in Hansen Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Disseler officiating.

Burial: Quincy Memorial Park.

Visitation: Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home

Memorials: Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund or Alzheimer's Association
