Harvey H. Axel, 1531 Wilmar Drive, Quincy, died Friday, March 23, 2001 at 9:30pm in Blessing Hospital.

He was born December 4, 1913 in Brown County, Illinois, the son of Harvey Axel, Sr. and Helen Barlow Axel, Sr. He married Marguerite Kraft, September 5, 1942 and she preceded him in death April 18, 1974. On May 27, 1980, he married Christine Johnson in Hannibal, MO. She survives.

Mr. Axel was a graduate of Quincy High School in 1931, and worked temporarily as a grocery clerk and house painter befire starting at Moorman's. He retired December 4, 1978 after 45 1/2 years at Moorman Mfg. Co where he was department manager of the Office stock room. He started at Moorman's on June 23, 1933 and worked continuously until his retirement. He was a member of both the 25 and the 40 year Clubs at Moorman's.He was a member of Luther Memorial Church, Quincy Consistory and Lambert Lodge #659 A.F. & A.M. He volunteered for the Y.M.C.A. and Meals on Wheels. He was an avid Blue Devil fan and pilot and maintained his pilot's license. Survivors in addition to his wife are a sister, Betty Axel, Jacksonville, IL and a step daughter, Janet Johnson, Quincy. He was preceded in death by parents, his first wife and a sister Jane Axel.

Funeral Services will be Monday at 11:00am in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Anholt officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 9:30am - 11:00am in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Luther Memorial Church andor Good Samaritan Home.
