Robert F. Gillhouse

Robert F. Gillhouse, 85, 1103 South 22nd died Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at 1:07am in Blessing Hospital.

He was born May 25, 1915 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Loren E. Sr. and Elizabeth Heidloff Gillhouse. On May 28, 1938, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Robinson in Quincy, Illinois. She survives.

Bob was a 1933 graduate of Quincy High School and a 1937 graduate of the University of Illinois. He started in the Accounting department June 15, 1937, the day following his college graduation. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 and returned to MoorMan's following his discharge. He was promoted to Assistant Manager of the General Accounting department in February, 1963, and in September, 1965, was named Manager of the Financial Accounting department. In May, 1970, he was elected Assistant Secretary of the Company and in May, 1975 was elected Secretary. Bob retired May 25, 1980 with 42 years and 11 months continuous service at MoorMan Manufacturing Company.

He was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Kum Dubl Sunday School Class, and had been treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the Moorman 25-year Club, National Association of Accountants, Golden K Kiwanis, Salvation Army Advisory Board, Lambert Masonic Lodge #659 A. F. & A.M, Quincy Consistory, and Ansar Temple Shrine in Springfield.

Survivors in addition to his wife are 3 children, Larry Gillhouse and his wife Janet, Davenport, IA; twins Martha Niehoff and her husband James, Enumclaw, WA and David Gillhouse and his wife Maureen, Wheaton, IL: 9 grandchildren, Nelle Barnes and her husband Ron, Princeton, IL; Dr. Norah Orteza and her husband Joe, St. Louis, MO; Hiram Gillhouse, Ashville, NC; Taylor Gillhouse, Davenport, IA; Megan, Kristin and Darren Niehoff, all of Enumclaw, WA; Michael and Kathryn Gillhouse of Wheaton, IL; 3 great grandchildren, Jeff, John and Jane Barnes, Princeton, IL ; 2 brothers, Loren E. Gillhouse, Jr., Missoula, MT and John Gillhouse, Eureka, IL; one sister, Mary Balch, Appleton, WI and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, April 21, 2001 at the Vermont Street United Methodist Church with Rev. David Alberts and Rev. Robert Swickard officiating. Burial is in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 4-7pm Friday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Vermont Street United Methodist Church or Salvation Army Endowment Fund.
