John C. Hebel

John C. Hebel, 83, 3801 Meadow Drive, Quincy, died Sunday, May 6, 2001 at 8:10a.m. at the Illinois Veterans Home.

He was born March 23, 1918 in Mexico, Missouri, the son of John H. Hebel and Norah J. Carpenter Hebel. On September 15, 1940, he married Dorothy Hubbard in St. Louis, MO. She survives.

Mr. Hebel was a 1936 graduate of Paris, MO high school. He served in the U. S. Army European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre (Central Europe, Northern France, Rhineland-The Bulge) He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was very active and had served as a deacon. For many years he worked for the Continental Baking Company --Wonderbread. Later he was operator and sales person for Christian Supply Store on 6th street in Quincy. He served as an election judge in Adams County for 20 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife are a daughter, Karen Wesselmann and her husband Gerald, Columbia, MO, 3 grandchildren, Aaron Atwood and his wife Kim, Grand Rapids, MI, Amy Parsons and her husband Marcus, Crystal Lake, IL, Scott Atwood, Grand Rapids, MI, 2 great grandchildren Denton and Megan Parsons, 2 sisters, Mary Stephens, Mexico, MO, Helen Huelster, Marionville, MO, nieces & nephews, Henry Hebel and his wife Norma, Quincy, Elmo Ravenscraft and his wife Jackie, Hannibal, MO, Howard Hebel and his wife Lucille, Jefferson City, MO, Ruth Stevens and her husband Gerald, Mexico, MO, Robert Marietta and his wife Anna Margaret, Mexico, MO, Dorothy Morgan and her husband George, Macon, MO, Frances Meyer and her husband Tom, Grand Rapids, MI, Harold Stephens and his wife Donna, Mexico, MO, Richard Huelster and his wife Kathryn, Santa Fe, NM, Ronald Huelster, Waynesville, N.C.
Nora Jean Brizendine and her husband Harry, California, MO, Joanne Robinson and her husband Bill, Mexico, MO and Jane Randell, St. Louis, MO and Judy Hawkins and her husband Ray, St. Cloud, MN. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers Orville and Homer Hebel and 2 sisters Pearl Ravenscraft and Mae Archer.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 9, at the Calvary Baptist Church, Rev. L. D. Grant officiating. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2:30pm in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Paris, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Missionary Fund of Calvary Baptist Church .
