Evelyn Simmons, 86, 800 1/2 State, died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at 9:45 pm at the North Adams Home.
She was born January 16, 1915 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Ebenezer and Hattie Louise Kerksieck Turner. She married Clarence Mast and later, after his death, she married Virgil Barton. He preceded her in death. She then married Robert Simmons, who also preceded her in death.
She was secretary for Dr. Griep for over 20 years, and she was employed by the State of Illinois as a Service Officer at Illinois Veterans Home. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the St. Elizabeth Society, National Secretary's Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved card playing and she was an avid Cub fan. She was secretary of the year in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Robert R. Mast and his wife Pat, Quincy; sister, Addie Mitchell and her husband Boots, Quincy; 5 grandchildren, Steven R. Mast and his wife Sarah, Quincy; Deborah Walker and her husband Andy, Macomb, IL; Brian R. Mast and his wife Andrea, Milan, IL; Melissa Mast, Quincy; Gregory D. Mast, Quincy; 3 great grandchildren, Ethan Robert Walker Macomb, Ian Jacob Mast, Quincy, Tyler Steven Dutton, Ontario, CA, a stepson Earl Simmons and his wife Bobbie, Bowie, MD a stepdaughter Barbara Slocum and her husband Donald, Oak Ride, TX and family friend Carol Perkins, Quincy. She also was preceded in death by her parents, and her 2 sons Ralph and Ronald Mast.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 28, 2001 at 10:30am in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home and at 11am in the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rev. John Carberry officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 4-7pm Wednesday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with a Wake service at 6pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Blessing Foundation for Hospice, St. Boniface School or St. Mary's School.
