Elma M Lewis, age 79, 2130 Harrison, Quincy, formerly of RR #3, Ellington Road went to be with her Savior, Saturday, November 10, 2001 at 8:03 P.M. at the Good Samaritan Home.
She was born November 4, 1922 in Melrose Township, the daughter of John Summers and Clara Raukohl Summers. On June 12, 1943, she married Harold Gill Lewis in Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1994.
Mrs. Lewis was a 1940 graduate of Quincy High School and a graduate of Gem City Business College. She was a member of Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Sunday School. She was an elder, a member of the choir and the Ellington Missionary Women. She was a member of the Ursa Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. For many years she was active with Volunteer Voices. She kept an active daily diary from 1943 until the present time. She arranged the Summers and Lewises genealogy records from the 1700's. For 15 years, Mrs. Lewis had worked as Administrative Assistant for Manpower, Inc.
Survivors include 2 sons, David H. Lewis and his wife Paula, Jerseyville, IL, Paul H. Lewis and his wife Barbara, Quincy, 5 grandchildren, Megan Lewis, St. Louis, MO, Kiley Lewis and Mitch Lewis, Jerseyville, Kendal and Katie Lewis, Quincy; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews. She also was preceded in death by by her parents, husband, a sister Marion Lubbert and a brother Henry Summers.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, at the Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church, Rev. Richard McFarlin officiating and Mr. Kevin McGinnis assisting. Burial in Ellington Home Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
