Harold A. Young, 72, of Quincy, died Sunday, February 10, 2002 at 4:00 am in the home of his son Todd, 2929 Selkirk Lane.
He was born April 10, 1929 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Henry Arthur and Blanche Friede Young. On October 25, 1979, he married Jane Utterback in Quincy, Illinois. She survives.
He was a 1947 graduate of Quincy High School. He was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for over 20 years, was manager of Dixie Mobile Homes, owner of Harold's Prestige Homes, and was co-owner of Savemore Carpets retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Quincy Rotary East and received the Paul Harris Award. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and received the Governor's Award for Safe Boating. He was a member of the Elks Club, the Quincy Boat Club, the Island Club the RV Club in Green Valley, AZ as well as the Men's Club of Green Valley and the Safari 4-wheel Drive Club. He was also a member of the Tubac Rotary Club in Tubac, AZ. Harold was active as a Quincy river historian especially steamboats.
Survivors in addition to his wife are 2 sons, Todd Young and his wife Mary, Quincy; Greg A. Young and his wife Mary Beth, Quincy; 2 daughters, Shirley Kimble and her husband Harvey, Urbandale, Iowa; Candi Freiburg and her husband John, Quincy; 2 step sons, Byron Utterback, O'Fallon, MO; Gregory Utterback, St. Louis, MO; 11 grandchildren, Chris, Zack and Alex Kimble; Matt and Scott Freiburg; Kevin and Keith Young; David, Michael and Bryan Young; Ryan Utterback; 2 great grandchildren, Hunter Goehl and Haley Sparrow. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, February 13, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4pm - 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rotary Foundation of Rotary East or Adams County Cancer Society.
