Ralph Stiles, age 71, 3930 Holiday Dr., Quincy, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at 12:01 pm in the Blessing Hospital Emergency Room.
He was born June 18, 1930 in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Arley Everett and Alta May Findling Stiles. On September 4, 1984, he married Hildreth E. Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois. She survives.
Ralph enlisted in the US Army Paratroopers on April 23, 1953, took basic training at Ft. Campbell, KY, and joined the 187th Regimental Combat Team. He returned from the Gyrascope move with the 508th in July of 1955 from Japan. He joined the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC until his honorable discharge in April of 1956. He was employed by Ford Garage in Mt. Sterling, Illinois and attended Gem City School of Horology. He retired from Bell Telephone in 1993. Ralph was a member of Quincy Church of Christ, and Quincy Model Airplane Club where he had been president.
Survivors in addition to his wife are 4 daughters, Marla Urton and her husband Harold, Lewistown, MO; Joni Cook and her husband Carl, Fowler, IL; Janna Turner and her husband Frank, Payson, IL; Lecia Spillman, Ft. Walton Beach, FL; one son, Kevin Stiles and his wife Susie, Ewing, MO; brother, Floyd Stiles and his wife Bearda, Ottumwa, IA; 3 sisters, Patsy and Shirley Stiles, Quincy; Lois Preston, Boonescamp, KY; 3 stepchildren, Jon Cawthon and his wife Donna, Pacifica, CA; Carol Thedford and her husband William, Bedford, NH; Michele Plescia and her husband Michael, Naperville, IL, 5 grandchildren Josh, Jena and Jered Cook, Fowler, Illinois, Jeremy and Michelle Urton, Lewistown, MO, several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Marie, Darlene, Maxine, and a brother Lloyd.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Friday, May 24, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Mr. James Riley officiating. Burial in Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, Illinois . The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Quincy Church of Christ or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
