Robert Arthur Tenhouse, age 79, a well known Liberty area farmer, died unexpectedly on August 29, 2002 in the Emergency Room of Blessing Hospital.
He was born June 27, 1923 in Burton Township, Adams County, Illinois, the son of Arthur W. and Grace Thompson Tenhouse. On October 21, 1944, he married Bonnie Sorrill in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She survives.
He was a life long Burton Township farmer and was a partner in Four-Ten Farms with his wife, son and daughter-in-law. He was still actively engaged in farming until his death. He was a great storyteller and and loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed gardening and sharing the bounty with others. Robert and Bonnie supported the Bowling Belles, their daughter Marcia's Special Olympics team. He treasured his long time employee Jim Muder, who will continue to operate the family farm.
Mr. Tenhouse served as President of the Liberty School Board and on the boards of Adams F.S., Federal Land Bank, Adams County Fair Association, Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and numerous other boards. He was a 53 year member of the Masonic Lodge and Consistory and the Adams County Farm Bureau.
Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, Rep. Art Tenhouse and his wife Sharon, Liberty; a daughter, Marcia Tenhouse, Liberty; 3 grandchildren, Katie, Andrew and Adam Tenhouse, Liberty;a sister, Mildred Leslie, Fowler; a brother, Harold Tenhouse and his wife Betty, Quincy and a sister-in-law, Betty Wilson, Quincy ; and nieces and nephews, .
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers -in-law William Leslie and Autrey (Woody) Wilson.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, September 3, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Rev. Ivy Silas officiating with the eulogy by family and friends. Burial in Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, Illinois . Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 7 PM and Tuesday until time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church or the Liberty Education Foundation. Masonic services will be conducted Monday evening at 7 PM at the funeral home.
