Dr. Alcee Jumonville

Dr. Alcèe Joseph "A. J." Jumonville, III, 73, 1811K South 24th, Quincy, died Thursday, October 24, 2002 at 4:47 pm in his home.

He was born February 28, 1929 in Crowley, Louisiana, the son of Alcèe Joseph and Lucie Augustine Crouchet Jumonville, Jr. On July 11, 1953, he married Betty Jo Thompson in New Orleans, LA. She survives.

He completed high school in 1945 at the age of 16, and received his B.S. in 3 years from L.S.U. where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a graduate from L.S.U. Medical School at the age of 23. After 4 years of specialty training in internal medicine he began his practice. In 1961 he moved to Quincy and became a partner of the Quincy Clinic. After serving as a physician for 42 years, Dr. Jumonville founded the Community Outreach Clinic with Blessing Hospital in 1994. Dr. Jumonville had also served in the Navy at the end of the Korean War.

He was also very active with his wife, Betty, in the American Red Cross,both nationally and locally, serving in disaster services and blood services. His last disaster services assignment was in January 2002 to New York City to provide health services in response to 9/11. He also served on the board of directors for the Adams County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and in 2002, he was recognized as volunteer of the year. He was a very involved member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church and his church community. He was also a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, and pursuing a life long dream of travel.

Survivors in addition to his wife are 4 sons; Alcèe Joseph Jumonville, IV and his wife Margaret, La Crosse, WI; Louis Joseph Jumonville II and his wife Carla, Pleasant Hill, CA; Andrew Crouchet Jumonville and his wife Susan, Bloomington, IL; James Earl Jumonville and his wife Ann, Kankakee, IL; 1 daughter, Lucie Marie Whiteford and her husband Timothy, Richmond, VT; sister, Carita Marie Jumonville, Baton Rouge, LA; 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 28, 2002 at 9:30 am in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home and at 10 am in St. Dominic's Catholic Church, Rev. Donald Knufman officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Sunday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with a Wake service at 4 pm. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Adams County Chapter of the American Red Cross or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
