Ralph O. Cummings

Ralph Cummings, 78, of 2926 Bluff Ridge Drive, formerly of rural Plainville, died at 10:05 am, January 19,2003 in his home.

Mr. Cummings, son of Arch F. and Edna A. Robbins Cummings, was born October 15, 1924. He married Mary Ellen McNett on December 10, 1949, at Madison Park Christian Church, in Quincy. Rev. L. C. Mauck performed the wedding. She survives. They attended Akers Chapel. He was a member of Madison Park Christian Church.

Ralph grew up in LaPrairie and graduated from LaPrairie High School. He studied Electrical Theory at Bradley University. He was a WWII veteran and a member of the Barry American Legion. He was a member of the IBEW Local 434, receiving his 50- year pin in November 2002. Ralph worked for Carl Electric in East St. Louis for 13 years. He then worked for Brown Electric for 18 years until his retirement in October 1986.

Ralph enjoyed scroll saw woodworking, archery, fishing and punch embroidery. He also loved to roller skate with his wife, which is how they met. Ralph looked forward to going to Hardees for morning coffee and to meet the "gang".

Ralph will be sadly missed by his 5 children, Tawny Benz and her husband Roger of Quincy, Kevin and his wife Liz of Titusville, Florida, Pam Frankenbach and her husband Paul of Palmyra, Betsy Cramsey and her husband Lynn of Camp Point, and Ellen Spears and her husband Steve of Quincy.

Ralph was a loving grandfather to Rebecca, Edward and Christopher Benz, Angela Benz Bunnell and her husband Travis, Erin and Megan Cummings, Kayla and Sarah Frankenbach, and Jacob, Joshua and Rachel Cramsey. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, half-sister, Marie Cummings of Hannibal and cousin Marilyn Robbins Prunty of LaPrairie.

Services will be conducted Wednesday, January 22,2003 at 2 pm in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home by Reverend Bruce Willard of Madison Park Christian Church. Memorials may be made to Madison Park Christian Church, Blessing Hospice or Akers Chapel.
