Arthur A. Conners, Sr., 80, 812 So. 12th, Quincy, died Sunday, June 1, 2003 at Blessing Hospital.
He was born September 30, 1922 in Palmyra, Missouri, the son of William Curtis Conners and Edna Stark Conners.On January 11, 1947, he married Laura Applegate in Quincy. She survives.
Mr. Conners was a member of the Baptist faith. He started his employment as a truck driver for C. L. Conners Trucking. He then owned the Shamrock Tavern for 20 years; owned the Virginia Hotel, the St. Jude Hotel, the Park Hotel, Downtowner Lounge and Expressway Blues. He was an avid camper and fisherman.
Survivors in addition to his wife are 3 sons, Art Conners Jr. and his wife Thelma, Quincy; Carl Conners and his wife Candy, No. Little Rock, AR; Marc Conners and his wife Brenda, Quincy; 10 grandchildren, Arthur Conners, III and his wife Shannon, Colorado Springs CO; Kevin Conners and his wife Reta, Quincy; Priscilla Miller and her husband Greg, Jacksonville, FL; Laura Bailey and her husband John, Maumelle, AR; Brooke Austin and her husband Toby, Cabot, AR; Carl Conners II and his wife Traci, Las Vegas, NV; Marc Conners, Ottumwa, IA; Carrie Conners and her fiancee Dustin Anderson, Macomb; Michael Conners, Belleville, IL; Andrea Conners, Bellevile, IL; a daughter-in-law, Karen Conners, Belleville; 7 great grandchildren Victoria Lynn, Hope Elizabeth, Conner Allen, Abby Grace, Jacob Falton, Coleman Andrew, Haleigh Nicole; 1 sister Geraldine Garber, Washington, GA;; numerous nieces and nephews and a favorite pet, his dog Miss Maggie.
He was preceded in death by parents, a son Eric, a daughter Sharon Lee, 4 brothers Carl, Frank, Clarence 'Buss' and Wilbur 'Manny' and 2 sisters Francis and Bertha.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 pm in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. George Tomko officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm. Memorials may be given to Blessing Hospital for Renal Dialysis or the American Cancer Society.
