Zora Perkins, age 78, Duluth, GA, (formerly of Quincy, IL) died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at 4:10 pm at the Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth.
She was born May 12, 1925 in Keytesville, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Lottie Ewing Spence. On June 4, 1949, she married Herbert Perkins in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1985.
Mrs. Perkins moved to Quincy from Keytesville, MO. She was a member of Bethel AME Church where she was a member of the Steward board, Sunday School board, usher board, and the missionary society. She was a 1942 graduate of Quincy High School. For 25 years she worked as a secretary for Harris Broadcasting Co.
Survivors include 2 stepsons, Obion Perkins, Chicago; Herbert Perkins, Jr. and his wife Judy, Chicago; 1 stepdaughter, Ella Green, Quincy; 2 brothers Silas S. Ewing, DesMoines, IA; and Frank Spence, Milwaukee, WI; 1 sister, Madeline F. Kelso, DesMoines, IA; 4 grandchildren, Anthony Perkins and his wife Sandy, Omaha, NE; Andre Steele, Atlanta; Chaundra Steele, Atlanta; Shawn Steele, Quincy; several step grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren Bryan Perkins, Omaha; Larell Lambert and Terell Steele, Atlanta; Gavin and Caleb Steele, Quincy. She also was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Linda Steele and one in infancy and 2 brothers Thomas Spence and Robert Ewing.
Funeral Services will be 11 A.M. Tuesday, June 24, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Rev. Donald Bailey officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Monday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to to the family.
