Gerald D. Allen

Gerald D. "Cubby" Allen, age 71, of 215 N. 30th St., Quincy, died Monday, January 19, 2004 at 7:50 p.m. in the Good Samaritan Home.

He was born April 22, 1932 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Elmer Allen and Ida Tournear Allen. On June 1, 1956, he married Shirley Suits of Shelbina, MO in Madison Park Christian Church. She survives.

Mr. Allen was a member of Madison Park Christian Church. He was a 1950 graduate of Quincy High School and enjoyed working on his class reunion. His hobbies were his children and grandchildren and watching football. He was awarded the Chicago Daily News Certificate of Football Excellence as a member of the 33-man Illinois All-State Squad in November of 1949. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy for 4 years after attending the University of Kansas on a football scholarship. He retired after 30 years plus service with the Federal Aviation Administration as an Electronics Technician. He then taught Basic Electronics through John Wood Community College at the Mt. Sterling Correctional Center. Later, Cubby contracted his services with the Macomb, IL airport for several years.

Survivors in addition to his wife are a daughter, Janine R. Allen, 2 sons, Dr. Douglas Allen and his wife Jolene and their children Daxton Allen and ALyssa Emrick, Dr. David C. Allen and his wife Karen and their children Alexis and Curtis, all of Quincy; a brother, Glenn G. Allen and his wife Vera of Quincy, 4 nephews Greg Allen and his wife June of Covina, Ca, Steve Allen and his wife Susan, Jon Allen and his wife Kay and Joel Allen and his wife Sheila all of Quincy and 2 nieces Amy Eaton and Her husband Jay of Canton MO and Ann Voyles and her husband Roy of Quincy and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Jeffrey D. Allen and a nephew Terry G. Allen.

Funeral Services will be Friday morning at 11 AM at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Rev. Henry B. Pratt officiating. Burial in Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday and Friday until time of services at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
