Emmett J. Griep, age 91, of 2022 W. Hilltop, Quincy, died Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at 4:15 am in Blessing Hospital.
He was born October 10, 1912 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of William and Nettie Voth Griep. On Oct. 18, 1939, he married Cornelia "Connie" Reis in Palmyra, MO. She preceded him in death on December 10, 1990.
He lived and attended schools in rural Adams County, returning to Quincy in 1930. He was employed as a pattern maker at Gardner Denver retiring in 1975 as General Foreman after 45 years. He was a charter member of Gardner Denver Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Herman Lodge #39, A. F. & A. M., Quincy Consistory, and was a HAM operator W9BIG since 1939.
Survivors include 2 sons, Ron D. Griep and his wife Debra, Independence, MO; Jerry A. Griep and his wife Jane, Magnolia, AR; 5 grandchildren, Chris Griep, Grain Valley, MO; Kevin Griep and his wife Kristi, Jefferson City, MO; Nikki Griep, Athens, GA; Ryan Griep and his wife Brittany, Ruston, LA; Kimberly Stephens and her husband Michael Paul, Magnolia, AR; 5 great grandchildren, Kellen, Kyler, Kaitlin, and Madalyn Griep and Max Hellwig; a very dear friend, Ruth Brown, Quincy. He also was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Marie Waechter and Virginia Thenhaus.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 17, 2004 at the Trinity United Church of Christ, Rev. Timothy A. White officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Friday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Masonic Rites conducted by Herman Lodge #39, A. F. & A. M. at 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ.
