Joseph D. Wand, age 66, of 910 North 3rd, Quincy, died Thursday, January 1, 2004 at 10:10 pm in Blessing Hospital.

He was born June 14, 1937 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Marcellus and Lucille Saylor Wand. On November 30, 1957, he married Kay Sherman in Quincy. She preceded him in death on June 22, 1997.

He was a graduate of Loraine High School, and was employed for 23 years at Consumer Sales Company. He was currently and for the past 17 years the owner and operator of the Wand-R-Inn. He was a member of South Side Boat Club where he was past president, Twin Oaks Club, and Ducks Unlimited. Joe liked to hunt and fish, bowl and play horseshoes.

Survivors include his mother, Lucille Simpson, Quincy; 5 children, Debbie Vogel and her husband Dave, Quincy; Joe Wand and his fiance' Gina Graff, Quincy; Shelly Mettemeyer and her husband Gene, Quincy; Kevin Wand and his wife Melinda, Quincy; Marcie Watson and her husband Steve, Quincy; 11 grandchildren, Dave Vogel and his wife Tonya, Hannibal; Darren Vogel, Liberty; Dakota and MaKayla Wand, Quincy; Jason and Ashley Mettemeyer, Quincy; Nick Mettemeyer, Bollingbrook, IL; Struther and Alexis Wand, Quincy; Jessica Wand and Mitchell Watson, Quincy; 3 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Barb Griffin and her husband Ron, Mendon, IL; 2 brothers, Bill Simpson and his wife Maureen, Wilmington, IL; Brian Simpson, Quincy. He also was preceded in death by his father; one grandson Damian Vogel; a step-father Bill Simpson and a brother Ronald Wand.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Rev. George Tomko officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Blessing Foundation for Hospice or the charity of the donor's choice.
