John M. Eggemeyer, age 87, of 1223 So. 21st, Quincy died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at 1:29 pm in Blessing Hospital.
He was born February 26, 1916 in Richmond, Indiana. On January 24, 1945, he married Joan Stafford Smith Eggemeyer. She preceded him in death on September 23, 1982.
He was a 1934 graduate of Morton High School, he graduated from University of Chicago with a BA in 1938, was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, and attended Harvard University School of Electronics. He was All State and All Conference in High School Basketball, received three major letters at the University of Chicago, and was an Indiana State Basketball Officials Assistant. From 1949-1975 he worked for Wayne Bus Corporation located in Richmond, Indiana, serving as a Western Sales Manager, Product Sales Manager, General Sales Manager, Assistant Vice President, and Corporate Marketing. From September 1975-January 1977 he worked for the Indiana Department of Commerce and was the director of the Economic Development Group.
Survivors include 2 sons, John Matthew III and his wife Martha, Rancho Santa Fe, CA, and Jeffrey Michael, Denver, CO; a daughter, Karen Joan Brown and her husband Don, Quincy; 4 grandchildren, Susan Rooney and her husband Dan, Edina, MN, John Matthew IV "Matt" and his wife Dr. Jennifer, Winnetka, IL, twins Christopher Carl and Nicholas Anton Eggemeyer, Rancho Santa Fe, CA; 4 great grandchildren, Patric Daniel Rooney and Macy Susan Rooney, both of Edina, MN, and twins, John Matthew "Jack" Eggemeyer V and Greta Anne Eggemeyer of Winnetka, IL. He also was preceded in death by his parents, a son James Carl, and a sister, Betty M. McAuliffe.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 pm in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Rev. Steve Disseler officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Quincy Foundation for Quality Education or Cheerful Home Day Care Association.
