Sterling Russell Moore

Sterling R. Moore, age 80, of 317 Lincoln Hill NW, Quincy, died Monday, March 1, 2004 at 4:05 am in his home.

He was born August 8, 1923 in Augusta, Illinois, the son of James H. and Zelpha McHone Moore. On March 9, 1946, he married Marjorie Vollbracht in Hannibal, MO. She survives.

He served in the US Army in North Africa and Europe during WWII. He worked for the Wabash Railroad and then worked at Selby's and farmed in the Hull area after the war. He then worked at West Pike High School, and then he was employed in the maintenance department at J. M. Huber until he retired in 1985. He like mushroom hunting, fishing and always enjoyed family gatherings.

Survivors in addition to his wife are 4 children, Terry McNary and husband Robert, Plainville, IL; Denny Moore and his wife, Ruth Anne, Barry, IL; Gary Moore and his wife Jill, Quincy; Mike Moore , Hull, IL; 4 grandchildren, Robbie McNary and his wife Belinda, Hull, IL; Linda Constable, Kinderhook, IL; Tammy Carlen and her husband Mike, Hull, IL; Katie Baker, Barry, IL; 7 great grandchildren, Dustin, Kirstin and Morgan, Ashley, Shelby, Logan and Austin; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Arthur and Lester and one sister, Irene Lamma.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, March 3, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Rev. Keith Ehresman officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Tuesday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.
