Velma "Nanny" Gardner, 89, 720 Sycamore, Quincy, died Friday, July 30, 2004 at 12:32 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.

She was born June 18, 1915 in Jackson, TN, the daughter of Lawrence and Ada Harris Pillow. On February 28, 1933, she married Parnell Gardner in Jackson, TN at The Church of Christ. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1967.

She worked as a waitress for 50 years, of which 30 were spent working at The Patio. She was a member of The Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Curran and her husband Duke, Quincy; three grandchildren, Greg Tanner, Springfield, IL; Kevin and Melissa Tanner, both of Quincy; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Tanner, St. Louis, MO; Bryson, Tylen, and Tevin Tanner, all of Quincy, and 2 great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Milton Pillow and his wife Helen.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10 am in the Greenmount Cemetery, Pastor James Riley officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5-7 pm at the Hansen- Spear Funeral Home.
