David William Turner

David William Turner, age 63 of 29972 Pike 239 Clarksville, Missouri, died Monday, October 18, 2004 at 12:13 p.m. in Pike County Memorial Hospital, Louisiana, MO.

He was born May 21, 1941 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Virgil Luther and Edith B. Adair Turner. On June 16, 1962, he married Nancy Charlene Mason in Quincy.

He was a 1959 graduate of Quincy High School. He received his B.S. degree in 1963 from Western Illinois University and a Master of Science degree from North Carolina State University, Raleigh. N.C. in 1967. He worked as a Sr. Statistician for the Institute of Statistics at North Carolina State University, serving as Director of South Eastern Fish and Wildlife Association, retiring in April 1995.

David was an avid reader, especially of Mark Twain, who once said, "There are three types of lies: lies, damn lies, and Statistics, " and, "The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them." He was a great admirer of nature and wildlife, loved fishing and eagle watching from his home overlooking the Mississippi River. He would say that he was born on the Mississippi and would die on the Mississippi.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters: Nancy Ward and her husband, Kevin of Zebulon, NC and Katherine Turner of Clarksville; two grandchildren: Ashlea and Nicole Gunn of Clarksville; a younger brother, Thomas E. Turner and his wife, Terri of Quincy; his mother-in-law, Berta Lea Higgins Mason of Barry, IL; an aunt, Margaret Turner of Kansas City, MO; one niece, five nephews, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Virgil L. Turner, Jr.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Quincy, with the Rev. Walter Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Kinderhook Cemetery (Illinois). The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2004 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Missouri Kidney Association through the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, 1535 State, Quincy, IL 62301.

Surviving also are 2 daughters, Nancy Ward and her husband Kevin of Zebulon, NC, Kathy Turner of Clarksville, MO; 2 grandchildren, Ashlea and Nicole Gunn of Clarksville, MO; a brother, Thomas E. Turner and his wife Terri of Quincy, IL; 2 sisters-in-law, Donetta Allen and her husband Eddie of Quincy, IL; Glenna Turner of Quincy, IL; an aunt, Margaret Turner of Kansas City, MO; one niece, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by parents, his wife and a brother Virgil L. Turner, Jr.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2004, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Kinderhook Cemetery, Kinderhook, IL. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.Friday, October 22, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Missouri Kidney Association through the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
