Katherine Ann Boudreau

Katherine Ann Klingner Boudreau, 66, of Quincy, Illinois died Sunday May 1st after a brave struggle against breast cancer. Mrs. Boudreau was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; a constant friend; an avid musician; and a dedicated educator. Katherine Boudreau loved to share a cup of tea with her friends and always welcomed them into her home. In the last year of her life, she traveled across the eastern United States to share meals and memories with those that were most important to her.

Mrs. Boudreau was passionate about music. She learned piano at the Pfeiffer School of Music in Quincy, taught music to children in elementary schools, taught piano in her home, and played concert string bass. She played in community orchestras in Quincy, IL, in Dothan, AL, Pensacola, FL, and in Sarasota, FL. She attended and held staff positions at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival in Sewanee, TN for more than twenty years. She also sang in her college and church choirs, and toured Europe with the First Baptist Choir of Dothan, AL.

She was an educator and taught in school systems across the eastern United States. She began her teaching career teaching first grade at Ellington School in Quincy in the early 1960s. She taught in elementary schools in Dothan, AL; Slocomb, AL; and Bradenton, FL. She also taught at the college level at Wallace Community College and Troy State University in Alabama. She received the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award from Troy State University-Dothan in 1996, where she taught psychology, music and art history.

Katherine's life revolved around her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She worked tirelessly to raise her children and gave them the gift of uncompromising love and understanding. Family always came first. The friends she made lasted a lifetime. Her spark, courage and passion for living will remain deep in the hearts of all that knew her.

She was born September 12, 1938 in Quincy to the late William H. Klingner and Belle Louise Shuey Klingner. She was a 1956 graduate of Quincy High School, a 1960 graduate of Culver-Stockton College, where she was a member of Chi Omega, and a 1963 Master's Degree recipient from the University of Connecticut. She served as a CMA Board Member and Art Club Chairman in Quincy. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church.

She is survived by her husband Richard R. Boudreau. Other survivors include her mother, Belle Klingner of Quincy; three children, John D. Prunkl and his wife Lisa of Oak Brook, IL, Susan E. Pendergrass and her husband Thomas of Huntsville, AL, and William C. Prunkl of Kyoto, Japan; their father Peter Prunkl of Salisbury, NC; five grandchildren, Lauren, Carolyn, and Charlie Prunkl all of Oak Brook, IL, and Drew and Chris Pendergrass both of Huntsville, AL; six brothers and sisters, John Klingner and his wife Edda of Quincy, Sylvia Sue Klingner of Fair Grove, MO, Mary Louise Loose and her husband Leland of Norwich, CT, Tom Klingner and his wife Gloria of Unionville, MO, Jim Klingner and his wife Francoise of Brussels, Belgium, Mike Klingner and his wife Barb of Quincy, IL; an uncle, eleven nieces, six nephews and one grand-niece. She also leaves scores of close friends across the country.

Services will be in Quincy's St. John's Anglican Church with the Rev. Stephen Strawn officiating on Thursday, May 5th at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Quincy. Visitation will be 5 -7 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home on May 4th.

Memorials can be made to the Katherine Klingner Boudreau Memorial Fund at First Federal Bank, 2001 Maine Street, Quincy, IL 62301-4345. Proceeds will be donated to the Sewanee Summer Music Festival and to the St John's Church building fund.
