Gene M. Brown

Gene Martin Brown, formerly of 2035 West Wilmar Dr. in Quincy, died June 16, 2005 at 5:55 pm at the Montebello Healthcare Center in Hamilton, Illinois.

He was born February 9, 1920 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Carey Andrew Brown and Maggie Leona Foster Brown. On March 3, 1951, he married Hettie M. Hoffman in 1st Presbyterian Church, Quincy. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2002.

He was a WWII veteran and served on the USS Mississippi in the Pacific Theatre, and he was a Navy Reserve retiree. Mr. Brown had been a foreman for Electric Wheel Co/ Bridgestone-Firestone.

He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and had been a 50 year member of the New London, Iowa Masonic Lodge #28 A. F. and A. M. and Quincy Consistory A.A.S.R.

Survivors include a sister, Amy Sams and her husband Harold of Argyle, IA; 4 nephews, Carey Sams, Keokuk, IA; , Kent Hoffman, Kinderhook, IL; Lee Jay Hoffman, Quincy; Ritchie Hoffman, Bloomington, IN; 3 nieces, Cheryl Cross, DesMoines, IA; Sharon Griffith, Florida ; Nancy Ogle, Kankakee, IL; brother-in-law, Hurley Hoffman and his wife Edna, Mendon, and sister-in-law, Geraldine Hoffman, Quincy. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl.

Funeral Services will be Monday, June 20, 2005 at 2:00 pm in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans, LA.
