Harold R. 'Shorty' Thompson, age 89 of 2100 Cherry Lane Estates, Quincy, died Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at 11:18 pm in Blessing Hospital.
He was born February 6, 1916 in Meadeville, Missouri the son of Robert O. and Lulu B. Jackson Thompson. On December 25, 1938 he married Mary Frances Churchill in Chillicothe, MO. She preceded him in death on May 2, 2003.
He was manager of Churchill Truck Line in Quincy for over 40 years and retired in 1988. Following his retirement, the Thompsons moved to the Lake of the Ozarks before returning to Quincy in 1993. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and had been attending Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ for the last several years. He was a former member of the Traffic Club, Rotary, and the Elks Lodge. Shorty was an avid bowler, fisherman, boater, and Blue Devil basketball fan.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved his family dearly.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Thompson Greene and her husband Dennis of Walnut Creek, CA; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Thompson of San Diego, Ca; 4 grandchildren, Brett Greene of Dublin, CA; Denise Greene of San Francisco, CA; Michael Thompson and his wife Terri Lynn of Fayetteville, GA; Daniel Thompson and his wife Lisa of Frisco, TX; two great grandchildren, Tristin Thompson of Fayetteville, GA, and Matthew Thompson of Frisco, CA; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Ginther of Chillicothe, MO, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, Terry and Jerry Thompson, and five siblings, Raymond, Karle and Gladys Thompson, Pauline Jones and Margaret Ginther.
Services will be Friday, July 8, 2005 at 10:00 am in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Judy Taylor officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 pm on Friday in Resthaven Cemetery, Chillicothe, MO. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Home or the American Heart Association.
