John Odell Dodson

John Odell Dodson, of 1707 N. 12th St., Quincy, formerly of Chrisman, IL died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005 at 5:30 am at the Illinois Veterans Home.

He was born June 2, 1917 in Marion, Indiana the son of Jack and Laverna Cassidy Dodson. On August 4, 1945 he married Betty Ann Babb in Van Buren, Indiana. She survives.

Mr. Dodson was a WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He survived the attack on Pearl Harbor and served in the Pacific Theater from April 13, 1940 through January 23, 1945. He was awarded three Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the P.O.W. Medal, the American Defense Service Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the Good conduct Ribbon.

After his military service, Mr. Dodson worked as the business manager for G&O Chevrolet in Paris, IL. He also worked as an accountant for several other automobile dealerships in Paris and in the Terre Haute, IN area.

Survivors include two sons: John O. Dodson, Jr. and his wife, Sue of Montezuma, IN; and David A. Dodson and his wife, Rhonda of Liberty, IL; one daughter, Vickie Weatherly and her husband, Wayne of Carter, OK; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 11 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be in All Faiths Chapel at 10 a.m. in the Illinois Veterans Home on Wednesday, October 12 with Chaplain John Adams officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund.
