Milton K. Powell, age 73, of 636 S. 6th St., Quincy, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 10:18 am in Barnes Jewish Hospital.
Milton was born September 20, 1940 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of William A., Sr. and Goldie Elizabeth Abel Powell. He married Dolores Hively on August 6, 1960 in Quincy. She survives.
Milton worked as a laborer for various contractors, retiring after 25 years with Union Local #919. He also served as the business manager and the secretary for the Local for 15 years.
Milton attended Columbus Road Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren. In his spare time, Milton enjoyed engaging in various outdoor activities including: deer hunting, mushroom hunting, and fishing.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Michael (Marie) Shaw and Donald (Jony) Shaw, both of Quincy, IL; two daughters, Melissa Crabill and Mellia Treaster, both of Quincy, IL; a son-in-law, Jeff Crabill of Quincy; 16 grandchildren, Michael, Jr.(Nan) Shaw of Lake St. Louis, MO, Donald Shaw of Liberty, Sarah Jo (Jesse) Tuter of Liberty, Nathaniel and Jessica Shaw, both of Quincy, Nicole (Curtis) Erickson of North Little Rock, AR; Emily Adams, Matthew, Meagan, and Abbigail Crabill, Brittany, Lisha and Lexie (twins), and Kevin Turnbow, and Rees and Levi Treaster, all of Quincy; five great grandchildren, Briana Shaw, Brodie Tuter, Sonny Stolter, Lauren Johnson, and Kolten Lewis; a brother, Robert T. (Marilyn) Powell of Quincy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Leonard Powell, Emmett "Skip" Irvine, William Irvine, William A. Powell II, and Douglas J. Powell; eight sisters, Pearl Blackman, Ruby Powell, Ruth Stratton, Wilma Clement, Louise Keller, Arlene Whitne, Blanche Selsor, and Doreatta Day.
Services: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Wallace officiating.
Burial: Woodland Cemetery
Visitation: Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
