Wilifred L. Baker

Wilfred L. 'Willie' Baker, age 66, of Quincy, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 2:05 p.m. in Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis.

He was born on December 28, 1939 in Palmyra, Missouri the son of Claude and Effie M. Lovelace Baker.

He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a Quincy police officer for 28 years from 1969 to 1997. He was a member of the Policemen's Benevolent and Protective Association of Illinois. He was a member of the Gold Wing Motorcycle Club. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, and motorcycles.

Survivors include: a son, Douglas Baker and his wife Tali and their children, Jentry and John of Quincy; a daughter Susan K. Smith and her husband Darren, and their children, Evan, Jackson, and Harrison of Quincy; a daughter Pam Hess and her husband, Ed and their children: Zack and Mackenzy Hess and Emily Brown and her husband, Andy, all of Palmyra; a brother Robert L. Baker and his wife Diane and their son Brian of Palmyra. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Anna Mae Fletcher.

Services will be Saturday, June 10, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Myers officiating. Visitation will be Friday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place in Maywood Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials made in Willie's name to the Policemen's Benevolent and Protective Association of Illinois or to the family would be appreciated.
