Ester Mae McLaughlin, age 86 formerly of 117 Park Plaza died Friday, September 8, 2006 at 8:20 am in Good Samaritan Home.
She was born May 16, 1920 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Estel Glen "Boots" and Edna Grace Shurt Hogge. On January 16, 1942 she married Wayne McLaughlin in Montgomery City, MO. He survives.
She was a 1939 Quincy High School graduate. She attended Gem City Business College. She was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church, Quincy Elks Club Auxiliary, Spring Lake Country Club and a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, Grace Whipple Chapter, and was Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Keokuk. Ester loved kids and operated one of the first nursery schools in Quincy called, "Mrs Mac's Nursery School". She worked along side her husband at McLaughlin Auto Supply for many years. Ester was an avid golfer, recording a hole-in-one in 2000, and she loved to play bridge and garden. She was a volunteer at Blessing Hospital Tea Room.
Survivors also include, three sons, Fred McLaughlin and his wife Bonnie of Keokuk, Iowa; Rick McLaughlin and his wife Billie of Naperville, IL and Michael McLaughlin and his wife Julie of Quincy; six grandchildren, Marc McLaughlin of Burlington, IA, Mike McLaughlin of Cabot, AR; Kory McLaughlin of Naperville, IL; Matt McLaughlin of St. Louis, MO; Meredith and Lauren McLaughlin of Quincy; 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Paden of Quincy; three brothers, Jack Hogge and his wife Vivian, and Duane Hogge and his wife Jody, all of Quincy; Robert Hogge and his wife Jean of Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Charles, Ted, and Glen Hogge, and a sister, Bette Bailey; aunt and uncle, Ella and Edward Frederick who raised her.
Services will be Monday, September 11, 2006, at 1:00 pm in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Lou Zuck officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Grace Whipple Chapter, Order of Eastern Star will conduct services Sunday at 7 pm. Burial will be in Baylis Cemetery, Baylis, IL. Memorials made to Vermont Street United Methodist Church in her name would be appreciated.
