Nellie Mae Isaacson

Nellie Mae (Nell) Isaacson, age 89, formerly of 827 Bluff Road, died peacefully in the Lord Sunday, October 8, 2006 at 8:10 p.m. at Spring River Christian Village, Joplin, MO.

Born June 14, 1917 in Pandora, OH, she was the eldest daughter of Samuel and Rose Garber Steffen. On September 23, 1944 she married John H. Isaacson in Drew Field Army Chapel, Tampa, Florida.

She was a 1935 graduate of Pandora High School where she was active in Glee Club and Mixed Chorus. A talented athlete, Nell was selected 'captain' of the varsity girls' basketball team, and a key member of both the softball and track teams.

Mrs. Isaacson was a member of the First Christian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and treasurer of the Sunshine Circle. She was also active in the Ladies' Bible Study Group, Church Women United Chorus, the Christian Women's Club and YMCA. Recognized by Highland Riverside School with the "PTA Life Membership" Award, she also excelled as a Cub Scout 'den mother.' She was an avid basketball fan and enjoyed showing ponies with her family at society horse shows for over 13 years.

Survivors include daughter - Nancy Carnine and husband Al of Webb City, MO and sons - Dan Isaacson and wife, Kim of Sherman Oaks, CA - Jim Isaacson of Dallas, TX - Bob Isaacson and wife, Janis of Charlotte, NC. She was the proud grandmother to 7 grandchildren - Michelle Hunter of Charleston, SC - Holly Spate of Dallas, TX - David Carnine of Webb City, MO - Eric & Kaila Isaacson of Sherman Oaks, CA - Dakota & Logan Isaacson of Charlotte, NC. She also had 3 great grandchildren - Kaitlin & Abigail Hunter of Charleston, SC, Kalen Spate of Dallas, TX; one remaining brother John Steffen of Pandora, OH and brother-in-law Jack Isaacson of Quincy, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 25, 1988; her parents; 4 brothers: Leonard, Willis, Harry, and Andrew Steffen; and 3 sisters: Bessie Green, Ruth Coates, and Arlene Snare.

Services will be Saturday, October 14th at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church with the Rev. Joby Brown officiating and burial in Quincy Memorial Park. Memorials in her name may be made to First Christian Church. Visitation will be held Friday, October 13th 4-7 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
