Ida Fern Proske

Ida Fern Proske, age 103 of 418 Washington, formerly of 719 So. 19th, died Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 8:40 a.m. in Sunset Home.

She was born April 27, 1903 in Wheatfield, Indiana the daughter of Gustave and Emily Grandgeorge Caquelin. On January 17, 1930 she married Arthur F. Proske in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1966.

Ida was raised on the family farm near DeKalb, Illinois. She was a dedicated homemaker. Ida always enjoyed working in her garden. She canned many fruits, vegetables and meats. Ida liked to sew, crochet and do needlework. She was a champion cookie baker and was known by all as "Grandma Cookie". Her cookies were always accompanied by a ready hug, smile and kiss. Her grandchildren always looked forward to stories from the good old days. She was an inspiration to all her family as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was of the Presbyterian faith. She was blessed with a wonderful long life and never lost her girlish ways and youthful spirit.

Survivors are a son, Donald W. Proske and his wife Ida Karen, a daughter, Crescentia Fauble and her husband Gilbert, 7 grandchildren Rick Proske and his wife Becky, Kim Holtschlag and her husband Jerry, Marcia Wentzel and her husband Rev. Larry, David Fauble and his wife Betsy Bier, Janis Terry and her husband Michael, Dr. Curtis Fauble and his wife Kathy all of Quincy; Julie Pribble and her husband Doug of Littleton, CO; 14 great grandchildren Rebecca and Nicholas Proske, Jason Mills, Megan and Kellie Holtschlag, Daniel Rowell, Jeannette Coleman and her husband Chris, Joe Bier Fauble, Meghan, Jeffrey and Jacob Terry, Kadi and Andrew Fauble and Clare Pribble; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sisters Rose, Nellie and Emma and 4 brothers Wilfred, Alfred, Louie and Will.

Services will be Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Wentzel officiating. Visitation will be Monday 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials made to Sunset Home or First Union Congregational Church in her name would be appreciated.
