Robert Buskirk

Robert Buskirk, age 76, formerly of 1840 Locust, Quincy, died Friday, January 26, 2007 at 9:12 a.m. in Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Mt. Sterling, IL.

He was born May 16, 1930 in Adams County, Illinois the son of James Ernest and Margaret Ellen Wiley Buskirk. On July 4, 1956 he married Cynthia Rose Sailer in Quincy, and she preceded him in death on September 7, 2003.

He was a truck driver for most of his life starting with employment at Quincy Supply Company where he hauled dynamite for 5 years. He was the first employee of Bemis Freightlines and drove for them until his retirement in 1988. After retirement he drove a school bus for Quincy Public Schools because he enjoyed children. Robert never received a ticket or caused an accident in all the millions of miles he drove. He loved to travel and touring the countryside and was in all the lower 48 states of the US. He enjoyed wood working and made yard ornaments, bird houses and swings. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors.

Survivors include a son, Steven Buskirk of Dallas, TX; a daughter, Sherri Gibson and her husband George, of 29 Palms, CA; 5 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Marie Smith, and Della Wagner and her husband Tom, both of Mt. Sterling, IL, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Don Buskirk.

A Memorial service will be Saturday, February 3, 2007, at 11:00 am in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin McGinnis officiating. Memorials made to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, American Lung Association in his name would be appreciated.
