Sarah Jane Maynard

Sarah Jane Maynard, age 85, of 3431 College, died Thursday, February 1, 2007 at 6:02 am in Blessing Hospital.

She was born December 21, 1921 in Stahl, Missouri the daughter of Edgar Lee and Ida Kathryn Schroeder Phillips.

Sarah was a 1944 graduate of Blessing Hospital School of Nursing, and was employed by Blessing Hospital for about 20 years. She was director of nurses at Sunset Home for 22 years.

She was member of the Lutheran Church of St. John her entire life and was a member of the Mary and Marthas and a former Sunday School teacher.

She was past president of Ellington School PTA and the Quincy China Painters Guild. She lead an active life and had many interests. She collected shells, rocks and baskets. She china painted, made ceramics, painted with watercolors and oils, crocheted and knitted. She enjoyed making baskets and wood carving at the Senior Center after retiring. She toured Europe and visited Hawaii and Canada as well as taking many interesting trips in the United States.

Survivors include 4 children, Judi Maynard and friend Sam Miller, Quincy; Jim Maynard and wife Susie, Quincy; Jane Baucom and husband John, Liberty, IL; Jay Maynard and wife Kendra, Quincy; 13 grandchildren, David and Daniel Huntley, Darin Huntley and wife Jen, and Mathew Schlieper and wife Brandy, all of Quincy; Tammi Robbins and husband Tony, Lombard, IL; Travis Maynard and wife Erica, Quincy; Janette Brinkman and husband Brian, Jill Knuffman and husband Clint, John Baucom, Jr. and wife Kelly, Jessica and Joshua Baucom, all of Liberty, Barbara Rivera and husband Sergio, and Sarah Maynard, both of No. Carolina, 14 great grandchildren; a sister Ruth Heckenkamp, Quincy, and a sister-in-law Norma Phillips, Hilton Head, SC; 2 very close cousins Florence and Dorothy Lavery, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother John Phillips.

Services will be Saturday, February 3, 2007, at 2 pm in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Bender officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 noon - 2 pm. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Blessing Hospital Alumnae or the Senior Center Workshop.
