James E. Walker

James E. " Jim" Walker, age 85, of 5434 State,a long time Hamilton resident died Friday, March 30, 2007 at 9:47 am in Blessing Hospital.

He was born December 24, 1921 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky the son of Autie Lewis and Beatrice Ollie Richardson Walker. On November 6, 1943 he married Rosalie Sherrill of Hamilton, IL in Mineral Wells, TX.

He was a 1941 graduate of Carthage High School. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII, was wounded in Belgium after the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart. He was employed at the Hamilton Post Office for 22 years, and at the Quincy Post Office for 8 years until he retired in 1980. He was a member of the Union United Methodist Church and a former member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Hamilton. Jim loved to spend his winters in McAllen, Texas.

He is survived by his wife; 3 children, Carolyn Patterson and husband Marc of Springfield, IL, Yvonne Bennett of Quincy, and Joan Miller and husband Greg of Quincy; 7 grandchildren, Grant Leary, of NJ, Amy and Sara Swinford of Springfield, IL, Jeffrey Bennett of Quincy, Larissa Skinner of LaGrange, MO, Nicholas and Jenna Miller, both of Quincy, and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Joyce Leary, 2 brothers, Onlyn and Raymond Walker, and a sister, Mary Etha Kopier.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 1, 2007 at 3:00 pm in Union United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Morwell officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-3 pm at church. Inurnment will be at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, IL. Memorials made to Union United Methodist Church, Chaddock School or Hamilton United Methodist Church in his name would be appreciated.
