Alta K. Gille

Alta K. Gille, age 91, formerly of 129 Rahna Road, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 8:05 a.m. at the Villa del Sol Health Center in Marshalltown, Iowa.

She was born May 19, 1915 in Marcelline, Illinois, the daughter of Donald and Edna Mae Crossan Vradenburg. In the early 30's she married Currwen LaMont Hoover and lived in Southern Illinois. He preceded her in death. On October 12, 1941, she married Lester Paul Gille in Wayland, MO. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1994.

She was raised in the Tioga/Lima area. She loved telling her children about driving her Model T Ford to high school. She was proud that she finally completed her education and received her high school diploma while in her 70's.

Alta was a past president and an active member of the Franklin School PTA. While there, she produced a successful talent show to raise funds for the school. Alta worked at the State Street Club and Grill for a number of years. She later owned and operated Tiny's Dinette on North 24th St. later located at 4th and College.

Quilting was one of Alta's favorite pastimes. She made quilts for all of her daughters. She truly enjoyed traveling, especially by train, to California and many other states to visit family. In later years, as a resident of North Adams Home and Villa del Sol, she enjoyed participating in activities and church services. She was elected Queen at each of the homes during Nursing Home Week celebrations. She enjoyed spending Mother's day with her family. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. 

Survivors include four daughters: Marilyn Foote and her husband, Bon, of Quincy; Connie Sue Dobson and her husband, Steve, of Marshalltown, IA; Sylvia Weese of Salt Lake City, UT; and Peggy Jo Curran of Urbana, IL; two sons: Lester Paul Gille, Jr. of Lansing, MI; and Dennis Michael Gille and his wife, Margaret, of Colorado Springs, CO; 36 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one living aunt, Jean Winters of Quincy; and numerous cousins. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, and two daughters, Darlene Corbitt and Patricia Gayles, and aunts who were very special in her life.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Monsignor Michael Kuse officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church or Shriner's' Hospitals for Children (St. Louis).
