Peter Rems

Peter Rems, age 97, of 1220 Park Place, died Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 5:10 am in Blessing Hospital.

He was born May 15, 1910 in Riga, Latvia the son of Lawerence and Evdokya Bozison Rems. On February 12, 1939 he married Ruth Antonous in Latvia. She survives.

Mr. Rems left Latvia in 1944 and came to the United States from Germany in 1950. He worked as a carpenter at Gardner-Denver Company and was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ, the Carpenters Union #822 and the YMCA.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his son, Mark Rems and wife Damoni of Denver, CO; 2 daughters, Anna MacArthur and husband Doug of Mendon, IL, and Zigrida Brown and husband Bill of Quincy; 8 grandchildren, Nick and David Rems of Denver, CO, Dara Ann MacArthur of Mendon, IL, Stacey Jarrett of Lima, IL, Fred Robert MacArthur and wife Michelle of Mendon, IL, Darren MacArthur of Warsaw, IL, Angie Harper of Quincy, Melanie Schertel and husband Steven of Columbia, IL; 7 great grandchildren, Haley Diane Schertel, Ashley Harper, Cody MacArthur, Brandilee Jarrett, Brettnee Jarrett, Kyle MacArthur, and Jacob Jarrett. He was preceded in death by his sister Akulina and brother Jupaty.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 am in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Wanda Seydel officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials made to Salem Church, YMCA, or Blessing Foundation in his name would be appreciated.
