Leonard Turi, age 74, of 1036 Jackson, died Thursday, July 12, 2007 at 4:23 pm in Lansing, IL.

He was born August 21, 1932 in Plainfield, New Jersey the son of Luigi and Theresa Anastasia Turi. On March 23, 1961 he married Barbara Mester in Crown Point, Indiana. She survives.

He was a graduate of Western Illinois University, and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Roosevelt. He was self employed all his life, loved to play chess and golf and was a fan of Notre Dame University Football.

Survivors also include 2 children, Leonard Anthony Turi and wife Heather of Fallon, NV, and Amber Elizabeth Turi and her significant other Kerry Sandusky of Lansing, IL; a grandson, Bennett Theodore; his seven siblings, Elizabeth Bavosi of Flemington, NJ, Louise Lizzi and husband Joseph of Pittstown, NJ, Margaret Russell of Raritan, NJ, Joseph Turi and wife Kristy of Long Beach, WA, Florence Braco of Margate, NJ, Louis Turi and wife Pat of Toms River, NJ, and Theresa Robinovitz and husband David of Princeton, NJ. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be Monday, July 16, 2007 at 11 am in Greenmount Cemetery with Father John Kennedy officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 pm at Hansen Spear Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Northwestern Palliative Care and Home Hospice Program or the charity of the donor's choice.
