Ralph Leonard Gerringer, age 99, of 720 Sycamore, formerly of 3214 Crestview, and formerly of Florissant, MO died on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 1:15 p.m. at Sycamore Health Care Center.
He was born February 23, 1908 in Quincy the son of Frederick S. and Susan Elvira Shelton Gerringer. He attended Quincy schools, including Gem City Business College. On November 28, 1936, he married Emma Jurgens in Quincy. She preceded him in death June 1, 1980. On Sept. 5, 1982, he married Alma Bradshaw Lubker in Florissant, MO. She preceded him in death September 15, 1991. He married Ruby Reis Curry in April of 1992 in Quincy, and she preceded him in death in November 2006.
Mr. Gerringer was employed by the State Street Bank in Quincy from 1925 to 1932. He then joined the Standard Oil Company and was department head and auditor at 11th and Maine, until transferring to St. Louis where he was plant superintendent and auditor. He was then transferred to Wood River, IL, where he was superintendent of distribution, supply and transportation. He retired December 31, 1966. Mr. Gerringer was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Florissant, MO and was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Quincy. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Ralph was proud to serve in the Army and always said, "I think I deserve to be buried in the uniform". He was an individual who loved his cigars occasionally and a tiny shot of whiskey. It's been a good life for him, one that has been well lived. He often stated that God had been good to him and thought in God's eyes "We are all created equal".
Survivors include a son, Dennis Gerringer of Florissant, MO, 2 grandchildren Desiree Gerringer and Eugene Jacob Gerringer and 2 stepsons James Sibbing and his wife Dulce of Quincy and Bob Sibbing of Macomb and numerous step grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Deborah Ann Gerringer.
Services will be Monday, August 6, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Schwartzkopf officiating. Visitation will be from 9 am - 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Legion Baseball or Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
