Jack O'Dear, age 54 of 1508 So. 46th St., died Friday, August 24, 2007 at 10:20 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.
He was born September 5, 1952 in Quincy, Illinois the son of John Harmon O'Dear and Dolores Edna Decker O'Dear. On July 4, 1998 he married Marilyn Drebes in Las Vegas, NV. She survives.
Jack was employed by Harris Corp. for 34 years. He joined Harris in the Radio/Audio Service Department in 1974 and was the key Contributor in developing Harris' 24-hour Service and Support. As part of the Harris service team, Jack continued Harris Service Department growth by leading and restructuring the Training Department. Jack was instrumental in growing Harris' market share in the Broadcast and sub-related markets World-Wide. Upon his completion running the Training Department, Jack spent the next 2 years as Project Manager for Nigeria and Saudi Arabia Programs completing the Saudi Program $1M under budget.
Upon finalizing the Saudi Program, Jack joined the International Sales team with Country sales responsibilities including those in the Middle East & Africa - then 1 year later - Asia-Pacific as well as those products/systems, supplied/manufactured by the Harris Mid-West Company & Allied Audio including Satellite Fixed/Mobile Systems & Fixed Audio/Video systems.
In 1990; Jack expanded his Sales Management role by being responsible for all World-Wide Harris BCD sales except for the 50-USA states and Latin America. With the establishment of the Harris Corporation RSM going into effect during FY-2001, Jack then joined the North American Sales Team.
Jack was an avid Cardinal fan and also enjoyed golf, softball, basketball, traveling for Harris and riding his Harley.
Survivors also include his mother, Dolores O'Dear of Quincy, 2 step-daughters Afton Wilson of Springfield, IL, Cassie Wilson of Phoenix, AZ, a stepson, Tait Wilson at home, 4 brothers Steven and his wife Debra of Quincy, Rob and his wife Barbara of Quincy, Mark and his wife Annie of St. Peters, MO, Paul and his wife Deborah of Quincy. He will also be greatly missed by his numerous nieces and nephews and great nephews and a great niece. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents
Services will be Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Steven Livengood officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hansen-Spear to be divided between Blessing Hospital and Blessing Cancer Center.
