Ruby Charlotte Wray, age 93 of 2130 Harrison and formerly of 2517 Lind, died Friday, August 24, 2007 at 9:55 a.m. in Good Samaritan Home.
She was born July 2, 1914 in Ursa, Illinois the daughter of Charles F. Brennecke and Emma Marie(Mammie) Knorr Brennecke. On June 2, 1944 she married Austin Wray of rural Quincy. He preceded her in death.
Ruby graduated from Mendon High School in 1932. She attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois and Western Illinois College in Macomb, Illinois. She then taught school in several rural Adams County schools for nine years.
She was a member of Zion United Church in Ursa. After marriage she became an active member of Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church of Quincy. She was a member of the Adams County Home Bureau, The Presbyterian Women's Missionary Association and the Antique Club of Quincy. She was a dedicated homemaker, enjoyed flower gardening, oil and watercolor painting and loved being with her grandchildren and family.
Survivors include a son, Wendell Wray and his wife Sandra of rural Quincy, 3 grandchildren Kristen Wray McKenna and her husband Tom of rural Quincy, Lindsey Wray Cornwell and her husband Kasey of Ursa, Scott Wray and his wife Susan of Ursa, 4 great grandchildren Shelby and Hallie McKenna and Austin and Lauren Cornwell and a niece Barbara McLean. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 28 at 11 a.m. in Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Joe Evers officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ellington Home Cemetery. Memorials made to Ellington Presbyterian Church, The Good Samaritan Home, or Blessing Foundation for Hospice in her name would be greatly appreciated.
