Melvin Danhaus, age 87, of 822 South 20th, died Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 11:59 pm in the Illinois Veterans Home.
He was born January 7, 1920 in Adams County, Illinois the son of Herman and Louise Brickman Danhaus. He married Florence Kollmeyer November 15, 1946 and she preceded him in death on December 28, 1981. In 1983 he married Juanita Hagerbaumer in Quincy, and she survives.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as an M.P. in Europe. Melvin received the Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster and the European Theatre Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, and the Distinguished Service Cross. He was employed by Consumer Sales as a deliveryman until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors also include 5 step children, Jim Hagerbaumer and wife Margaret, Kathy Bernal, Steve and Randall Hagerbaumer, all of Quincy, and Russell Hagerbaumer of Cedar Rapids, IA; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Burgdorff and husband Glenn of Camp Point, IL, and a son, Paul Danhaus and his wife Linda of Wausau, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son Douglas in infancy, 2 brothers, Albert and Emmett Danhaus, and 2 sisters, Carlene Beuhler and Marie Speckhart.
Private graveside services were held Friday, September 28, 2007 at 10 am in Greenmount Cemetery with Rev. Marlin Rempfer officiating. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church in his name.
