Charles W. McCallister, age 74, of 3500 S. Glendale, died Friday, November 23, 2007 at 2:50 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.
He was born June 7, 1933 in El Dara, Illinois the son of Herman and Dorothy Adele Shanahan McCallister. On September 15, 1951 he married Anna Louise Belts in El Dara, Illinois. She survives.
He was a 1951 graduate of Barry High School and attended Western Illinois University for one year. He was an engineer at Electric Wheel before becoming customer service manager for Titan Wheel. He retired in October of 2006 after 54 years of service to the company. Mr. McCallister was the Mayor of Payson for eight years.
Being an avid bowler, he was the president of the Quincy City Bowling Association. He was also the President of Cedar Crest Country Club. Charles was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a former deacon and member of Grandview Baptist Church. Charles' greatest love was for his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, survivors include, two sons: Kevin McCallister and his wife, Myrna, of Hull, IL, and Tony McCallister and his fiancée, Judy Miller, of Liberty, IL; a daughter, Tina Willer and her husband, Troy, of Quincy; seven grandchildren: Nicole Wegener and her husband, Randy, of Red Bud, IL, Shawn McCallister of Trenton, IL, Michael McCallister and his wife, Bobbi, of Payson, IL, Christopher L. McCallister of Quincy, Kayla Duncan of Hannibal, MO; and Paige and Payton Willer of Quincy, two great-grandchildren: Kerry Ann McCallister and Kiersten Wegener, both of Red Bud, IL; and a daughter-in-law, Jeanette McCallister of Trenton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kerry.
Services will be Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Waters officiating. Visitation will be Monday, November 26 from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be in Parklawn Cemetery in Barry, IL. Memorials made to Blessing Foundation for Hospice, American Heart Association, or American Cancer Society in his name would be appreciated.
