Lori Voorhis Florence, age 44 of 1527 No. Michigan Ave. Springfield, IL, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 4:15 pm in St. John's Hospital.

She was born January 3, 1964 in Quincy, IL the daughter of Ronald and Shirley Pfaffe Voorhis. On October 20, 2001 she married Douglas J. Florence in Springfield. He survives.

She was a 4-H member. She played volleyball at CYO and played softball as a catcher and right fielder for various businesses. She sang with the Quincy All American Choir. She was a 1982 graduate of Quincy High School where she had a poem published in the year book. She received her Associates Degree in Applied Science from JWCC in 1997. She also attended Quickbooks Computer Class at JWCC to improve her bookkeeping skills. She was employed for 6 years at Greene County Cable as Administrative Bookkeeper.

Lori was a former member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where she was secretary for Habitat for Humanity. She was a member of 5th Presbyterian Church in Springfield where she was a Deacon.

She enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River. Lori loved her animal friends and made donations to animal shelters. She found two stray cats and made them her own. Her husband said if Lori saw a dead animal anywhere, she would "bless their little hearts". They even had chickens in their back yard.

Survivors also include her sister, Debra Maple Potts of Quincy; a brother, Michael Voorhis and wife Kim of Quincy; three nephews, Adam Maple and wife Cheryl of Hunnewell, MO, Travis Maple and wife Jennifer of Ursa, IL, Brandon Voorhis, and a niece, Ashley Voorhis, both of Quincy; a great nephew and great niece, Connor and Grace Maple of Ursa, IL; two uncles, Tom Pfaffe, Ronald Pfaffe and wife Carol, both of Quincy; numerous cousins; 3 step children, Joel Florence of MO, Jarrad Florence of WA, and Alisha Florence of Springfield, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers in law, Al Maple and Walt Potts; 4 aunts, Pat Kramer and husband Leonard, Shirley Powell and husband Joseph, Betty Pfaffe, and Onalee Stevens and husband A. J., and a great niece Kalina Maple.

Services: 11 am Friday, February 29, 2008 at Hansen-Spear with Glenys Hamer officiating.

Visitation: 10 am - 11 am Friday at Hansen-Spear. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
