Pauline E. Nokley, age 80 of 306 Shannon Drive, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 10:27 pm.
She was born January 16, 1928 in Mendon, IL, the daughter of William A. and Nellie Mae White Hart. She was a 1946 graduate of Quincy High School. On November 1, 1946 she married Glen R. Schmitt in Quincy, IL.
Pauline began a long retail career starting with Block & Kuhl in Quincy. In 1961 she joined Kirlins, Inc. as the Store Manager for Hallmark 'N Stereo in Quincy, a meeting place for teens to listen to the top 40. Over the next 35 years, she was an integral part of Kirlin's management team. Among her many roles were Store Manager of Kirlins Hallmark stores in Decatur, IL and Springfield, IL, District Manager for stores in Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa, Personnel Manager for the company, and Regional Manager. Her many contributions and her dedication to her work were instrumental in making Kirlins the largest independent retailer of Hallmark cards in the country. She retired in 1996.
Pauline will be remembered for her love of fun, music and life as well as the many "Board Meetings" she hosted. Her friends and family say to her, "Thanks for the memories."
Survivors include: a son, Glen D. Schmitt and wife, Dr. Barbara J. Dougherty, of Oxford, MS; a grandson, Jason Schmitt and wife, Megan, of Tulsa; a great-grandson, Hudson Schmitt of Tulsa, OK; brother, Dale T. Kirlin, of Quincy; her very best friends, Jim and Joyce Knodel, of Quincy; nephews and nieces, including Dale Kirlin, Jr. and wife Jacque, of Quincy; Gary Kirlin and wife, Jo, of Quincy; Barbara Kirlin of Houston, TX; Don Kirlin and wife, Susie, of Boulder, CO; and great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Donald Kirlin, and step-grandson, Brad Dougherty.
FUNERAL SERVICES: Services will be private. Entombment will be in Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.
VISITATION: Sunday, February 24, 2-5 pm at the funeral home.
