Richard C. Bernett

Richard C. Bernett, age 72 of 910 Rim Rd., died Monday, May 12, 2008 at 7:35 pm. in Blessing Hospital.
He was born November 26, 1935 in Blue Ridge Township, Illinois the son of Ora and Ruth Bidner Bernett. On December 12, 1992 he married Crystal Knupp in Quincy, Illinois. She survives.
He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1957-58. He worked at Moorman Manufacturing as Dairy Research Manager for 32 years until his retirement in 1995. He later worked part-time for the Business Centre in Quincy. Richard was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was an avid fan of the University of Illinois, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. He enjoyed being outdoors with his dogs, gardening, playing golf and league bowling with his son, Todd.
Survivors in addition to his wife include: 4 sons, Mark Bernett and his wife Andrea of Austin, TX; Brent Bernett and his wife Carrie of Galesburg, IL; Todd Bernett of Quincy; Kurtis McCabe and his wife Jessica of Quincy; a daughter, Kayla McCabe and her fiance Damon Marquis of St. Louis, MO; 2 grandchildren, Montana & Clark Bernett; a step-grandchild, Brecken Anderson; his mother, Ruth Bernett of Rantoul, IL; a sister, Marilyn Heiser and her husband Everett of Foosland, IL; a brother, Dana Bernett and his wife Maryann of Nixa, MO; and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother Byron in infancy.
Services: Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 11:00 am in Christ Lutheran Church, 333 S. 36th St., with the Rev. Paul Schwartzkopf officiating.
Visitation: Wednesday, May 14, 4-7 pm. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery.
Memorials: Christ Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association in his name would be appreciated.
