Dorothy Marie Dyer, age 87, of 1704 Sycamore, died on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 9:02 a.m. at Blessing Hospital.
She was born July 2, 1920 in Loraine, Illinois, the daughter of Orville Lee and Agnes A. Wenning Wartick.
On February 20, 1941 she married John E. Dyer in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 6, 1985.
Mrs. Dyer was a 1940 graduate of Quincy High School. Mrs. Dyer had been employed as an elevator operator for the W. C. U. Building, Carson-Pirie-Scott and the J. C. Penney Co. She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses having been baptized in September, 1946. Dorothy devoted her life to her family and her faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Huddleston and her husband Lyndell, and Donna Petry Taute, both of Quincy; six grandchildren, David Huddleston and his wife Chris, Purdy, MO, Sam Huddleston and his wife Marilyn, Des Moines, IA, Tim Huddleston and his wife Nancy, Quincy, Don Petry and and his wife Amy, and John Petry and his wife Chris, both of Wayland, MI, Mary Petry and her partner Phillip Stark, Quincy; 14 great grandchildren, Terry Randall, Quincy, Colt Huddleston and his wife Allison, Monet, MO, Brandon Huddleston, Portland, OR, Wyatt Huddleston, Purdy, MO, Donnie Petry, Ft. Carson, CO, Dee Dee Petry, Quincy, Kelsey, Benjamin and David Petry, all of Wayland, MI, Brittany Basham, Cherry Valley, CA, Zackary Reed, Des Moines, IA, Taylor Huddleston, Ankenny, IA, and Karrah and Jensen Stark, Quincy; one great great granddaughter, Olivia Huddleston, Monet, MO; a step grandson, Eddie Huddleston, Des Moines, IA; 8 step great grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Janet "J.D." and John Huddleston, all of Quincy, Billy Wilson, Des Moines, IA, Patti Gibson and her husband Larry, Des Moines, IA, Isaiah and Colton Burgess, Quincy; 4 step great great grandchildren, Jordan Deaton, Aspen Wilson, and Austin and Dacoda Gibson, Des Moines, IA; three sisters, Nadine Scott of Bowen, IL, Vi Kerker of Quincy, IL, and Loretta Wollbrink and her husband, Robert of Fowler, IL; 2 sisters-in-law, Phyllis Wartick, Peoria, IL and Ragene Wartick, Bowen, IL; Many nieces and nephews that were very dear to her heart.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Jim Huddleston; six brothers, Clarence, Raymond, Elmo, Francis, John and Dean and a sister, Maxine Siefkin.
Services: Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Will Shepherd officiating. Burial in New Loraine Cemetery, Loraine, Illinois.
Visitation: Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
