Dr. C. Steffensmeier

Dr. C. H. Steffensmeier, age 86, of 823 S 36th, and formerly of 2119 Curved Creek Ct. died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 12:35 am in Blessing Hospital.

He was born December 6, 1921 in St. Paul, Iowa the son of Ben and Rose Umthum Steffensmeier. On July 8, 1948 he married Faye Lane in Davenport, Iowa. She survives.

Dr. was a graduate of Geneva Illinois Academy in 1939, St. Ambrose College in 1948, and Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, flying P38's in photo reconnaissance in the Pacific Theatre. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve retiring as a Lt. Colonel.

Dr. moved to Quincy in 1968 and built his chiropractic clinic with his long time friend Dr. W. J. Weckbach. His daughter, Becky Grimm, joined him in practice in 1987. He practiced until his retirement in 2005.

He was a member of the Church of St. Peter and Elks Lodge #100, the Illinois Prairie State Chiropractic Association, Palmer College Alumni Association, and the F.C.E.R. Research Foundation for Chiropractic. He was a life member of the Reserve Officers Association, the Air Force Retirement Association, the Quincy Boat Club and the Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the South Side Businessmen Club, the 26th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron Association, and the P-38 National Association.

Survivors also include 3 children, Susan Kovacs and husband Will, Aiken, SC, Dr. Larry A. Steffensmeier and wife Betty, Rock Springs, WY, and Dr. Becky Grimm and husband David, Quincy; 3 step grandchildren; 2 sisters, Joan Boeding and husband Harry, Mt. Pleasant, IA and Annette Nares, Davenport, IA; 2 brothers, Paul Steffensmeier and wife Phyllis, Donnellson, IA and Dr. Lloyd Steffensmeier, Lisbon, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and 9 brothers and sisters.

Services: 10:00 am Monday, May 12, 2008, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Father Dan Bergbower officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #37.

Visitation: 4-6 pm Sunday at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
