Susan Harrison Williams West passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 1:33 p.m.in Atlanta, Georgia.
She was born on June 14, 1924 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of John Alexander and Geneva Crabb Harrison. She married Oliver Bliss Williams of Quincy, IL on February 8, 1947. Following Bliss' death in 1998, she married Robert West, of Charlotte, North Carolina in 2004.
Sue grew up in St. Louis and moved to Houston, TX with her husband and children in 1956. The past 28 years she resided in Blowing Rock, NC; Brenham, TX; and Charlotte, NC. She moved to Atlanta following surgery in May of this year.
Sue spent her last days as she did her life, giving her children and grandchildren the gift of selfless living mixed with gratitude and humor. All of her children and grandchildren had the privilege of spending many of her last days with her, continuing to learn lessons of gentle living.
She is survived by her husband, Bob West of Charlotte, NC; 2 daughters, Debby Williams Rushton Fleischer and her husband Robert; and Patty Williams Baldwin and her husband Penn, all of Atlanta, GA; grandson Harrison Rushton and his wife Anna of Chattanooga, TN; granddaughter Bliss Rushton Stone and her husband Steve, of Atlanta, GA; grandson Travis Baldwin and his wife Catherine, of Dallas, TX; grandson Will Baldwin of Atlanta, GA; and great-grandchildren Carlisle Stone and Bennett Rushton.
In addition to her husband of 51 years, Bliss Williams, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jack Harrison.
Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Woodland Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois with the Chaplain Steve Disseler officiating. Burial will be next to her husband, Bliss, in Woodland Cemetery overlooking the Mississippi River.
A memorial service will be held at the Cypress of Charlotte in the Community Room at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2008.
