Lawrence E. "Larry" Shinn, age 83, of 833 Eastate Dr., Quincy, died on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 8:45 p.m. at Blessing Hospital.
He was born January 17, 1925 in New Hartford, Illinois the son of Claude J. and Elfie D. Dillender Shinn. October 31, 1948 he married Velma Shrader in Quincy. She preceded him in death on June 12, 2005.
Larry attended New Hartford School and his family moved many times. He went to eight different grade schools and attended Pittsfield High School for three years. He graduated from Seymour High School in Payson. He later acquired certificates from three TV and electronic schools and practiced TV work for 37 years. He and his family moved to Arizona, and he returned to Illinois to marry Velma. He was very devoted to her and they had an ideal marriage all 57 years.
Larry worked for Cooper Supply, Supreme Electric, Motorola and retired from Moorman Manufacturing. He was very thoughtful of his family and thought so much when they visited him and Velma. He never forgot the fond memories and love he had for his wife, Velma. He was also an avid gardner who enjoyed sharing his produce with others.
Survivors include 2 sons Michael Shinn and his wife, Debbie, of Quincy; and Kent Shinn and his wife, Cindy, of Quincy; and four grandchildren: Melissa Shinn, of Aurora, CO, Tyler, Ryan and Rick Shinn, all of Quincy.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rosemary Bupp and Dorothy Blake; and two brothers: Clyde and Russell Shinn.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2008 in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. L.D. Grant officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
