Paul Arndt, age 67, of 230 S. 24th St., died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 1:00 pm in his home under the care of Hospice after colon cancer treatment.
He was born September 10, 1941 in Johnson County, Kansas the son of Russell and Eva Rucker Arndt. On July 25, 1964 he married Janet Ellenberg in Spring Valley, Minnesota. She survives.
Paul was a graduate of Rosedale High School, Kansas City, KS and Westmar College in LeMars, IA. He was an accountant for Hallmark Cards following graduation. He was recruited by his Alma Mater to enter a bank officer training program and has been employed in that industry for 40 years. He was currently Senior Vice-President of Human Resources at Mercantile Bankcorp, Inc.
Paul devoted his life to his family and community activities. He was recognized numerous times for service and volunteer activities, most recently he received the Sister Theresa Marie Braun Service Award for his tireless efforts and commitment to the "Bridge the Gap to Health" run that benefits the MedAssist Program of Quincy Catholic Charities. With Paul's wishes and approval from the BTG committee on December 10, 2008, the Kids Fun Run will be officially renamed "The Paul Arndt Memorial Kids Fun Run" in his honor and shall remain so forever.
Paul was an active member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors also include his son, Dr. Grant Arndt of Ames, Iowa; his daughter, Jennifer Arndt and fiance' Scott Robinson of Baltimore, MD: two brothers, Charles Arndt and wife Linda of San Antonio, TX, and Bruce Arndt of Kansas City, KS: three nephews, Mark Ellenberg and wife Suzanne of White Bear Lake, MN, Clinton Ellenberg of Dallas, TX, and Derek Arndt of San Antonio, TX: two nieces, Carolyn LaBille and husband Todd of O'Fallon, MO, and Cholena Arndt of San Antonio, TX: two great-nephews, Noah Ellenberg of White Bear Lake, MN, and Jack Henry LaBille of O'Fallon, MO: two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Ellenberg and wife Barbara of Nashville, TN, and Dr. David Ellenberg and wife Shirley of West St. Paul, MN; a sister-in-law, Gladys Jones and husband Tony of West St. Paul, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2008 in Vermont Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lou Zuck officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Sumner Public Cemetery in Fillmore County, MN.
