John Edward Beeler, age 85, of 3508 S. Glendale Drive, formerly of Bowen, died Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 9:05 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.
He was born September 3, 1923 in Hancock County, Illinois the son of Albert and Edna Wollbrink Beeler. On September 29, 1943 he married Dorothy Hall in Hancock County, Illinois. She survives.
John was a farmer and a trucker until 1986, when he retired and began to have fun. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and spent close to twenty winters in Florida. They also took several cruises. He was an avid fisherman, camper and squaredancer. John was a member of the Gem Dandy Square Dancing club, as well as a number of camping clubs.
In addition to his wife, survivors include, three daughters: Sandra Jones and her husband, Mike, of Quincy; Karen Day of Monmouth, IL; and Rhonda Adair and her husband, Joe, of Ursa, IL; five grandchildren: David Jones of Jacksonville, IL; Rachel Jones and her husband, Paul Higgins, of Louisville, KY; Becky Day of Peoria, IL; Craig Adair of Gillette, WY; and Gale Adair of Columbia, MO; three great-grandchildren: Collin Jones of Jacksonville, IL; and Luke and Ben Higgins of Louisville, KY; two sisters: Arlene Lantz of Plymouth, IL and Elma Seals of Arbela, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Leo and Glen.
Services: Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Schwartzkopf officiating. Burial will be in Bowen Cemetery.
Visitation: Wednesday, January 28 from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
